The state of Connecticut’s digital gaming industry saw a significant increase in January, with online gambling generating a substantial $18.8 million in revenue, a considerable leap from the previous month.
After accounting for promotional expenditures, which amounted to $3.6 million, the total revenue before these costs reached $22.4 million.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, the largest stakeholder in the industry, secured the largest portion of the revenue, claiming $11.1 million, while the Mohegan Tribe received the remaining $7.7 million.
Online gambling saw a total of $780 million in wagers, a slight decrease from December.
Foxwoods Resort Casino, under the ownership of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, recorded the highest wagering amount at $502.5 million, followed by Mohegan Digital at $277 million. Foxwoods also saw a small amount of mobile live wagering, which involves gambling directly at the casino, totaling $440,460.
Players won a total of $757.3 million, also experiencing a minor decline from December, with Foxwoods again claiming the highest winnings at $488.6 million.
The state government received a share of $3.3 million from the online casino gambling revenues in January, a notable increase from the previous month.
Mohegan Digital contributed $1.3 million, while Foxwoods paid $2 million.
Online sports betting also performed well, generating $7.4 million in profit, a 17% increase.
During the twelfth month of the year, digital gambling income reached $149.3 million, signifying a 6% rise compared to the same time frame in the preceding year.
This resulted in $1 million in payments for the state, representing a 60.8% surge from December. Of this sum, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe’s Foxwoods Resort Casino contributed $635,480, while Mohegan Digital contributed $333,522. The Connecticut Lottery Corporation contributed the remaining $60,020.
Physical sports betting income amounted to $8.7 million, a 34.3% increase from December. Winnings saw a 29.6% month-to-month rise to $7.8 million. Consequently, the total gross gaming revenue for physical sports betting was $825,369.
Physical sports betting generated $113,488 in payments, all stemming from the Lottery Corporation’s Rush Street Interactive sports betting enterprise. This figure is more than double the $54,457 payment in December.
Connecticut’s online gambling and sports betting marketplace commenced operations in October with a seven-day soft launch starting on the twelfth of October. The full launch ensued on the nineteenth of October.
The Mohegan Tribe, Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, and the Connecticut Lottery Corporation are the sole entities permitted to conduct sports betting in Connecticut.
