Spains gambling income soared by 55.1% annually in the second trimester, hitting €312.6 million. This signifies a substantial rise from the same period last year, which witnessed €312.6 million in income. The total income for the second trimester outpaced last year’s figures and also surpassed the €313.3 million generated in the initial trimester by 2.5%. These figures were unveiled by the Spanish regulatory body, the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ).
Casinos produced the highest total gambling income in the second trimester, reaching €149.9 million. This denotes a 27.9% increase year-on-year and a 4.5% increase compared to the initial trimester.
Slot machine income climbed by 29.9% annually, while live roulette gambling income expanded by 8.9%.
The sports betting sector reported the most significant percentage growth in the trimester. Total gambling income reached €133.3 million in the three-month period, representing a 118.9% increase annually.
Pre-match sports betting income was 1.8% higher than in the second trimester, while live betting income also rose by 3.5%. Horse racing betting saw a 22.7% increase, but other sports betting income decreased by 15.1%.
Moreover, poker betting income was 27.6% higher than last year, reaching €25.8 million, but this figure was 5.8% lower than in the initial trimester. Tournament poker betting income increased by 38.1% compared to the second trimester of 2022, and cash poker betting income also witnessed a slight increase of 4.9%.
Bingo betting income reached €3.5 million, representing a 5.5% increase compared to the previous year and also exceeding the 5.
The Spanish gaming industry witnessed a positive trend during the second quarter, with total earnings rising by 5%.
Although overall earnings grew, the second quarter experienced a 41.5% decline in revenue compared to the previous year, eventually reaching €140,000, a 1,464.9% surge over the preceding year.
Player deposits also experienced an increase, growing by 19.6% annually, but decreasing by 2.0% compared to the initial quarter. Withdrawals rose by 3.0% in comparison to 2022, but fell by 2.3% compared to the first quarter.
Total marketing expenditures by Spanish authorized operators reached €96.6 million, a 3.0% increase year-over-year. Of this, advertising spending rose by 7.7%, affiliate spending by 56.2%, sponsorship spending by 225.2%, while promotional activities decreased by 1.7%.
The average monthly active gaming accounts reached 1,134,993, an 11.4% increase year-over-year. However, the average monthly new accounts decreased by 3.0%, reaching 102,804 users.
Moreover, the DGOJ released an updated summary of the number of active authorized operators in the Spanish market. In the second quarter, there were 78 licensed operators providing some form of gambling.
Of these authorized operators, 43 offered sports betting, 50 offered casino, 9 offered poker, 3 offered bingo, and 2 offered competitions.
